Expanding on Lauren Greenfield’s five-part FX/Hulu docuseries, Social Studies follows a diverse group of Los Angeles teens during the 2021–2022 school year, capturing the distance between their public personas and private lives. The exhibition continues Greenfield’s decades-long examination of youth culture, tracing how growing up online shapes relationships, aspirations, and self-image.

Expanding Lauren Greenfield’s Social Studies into an immersive exhibition, the Fotografiska Berlin presentation explores adolescence and identity in a world shaped by social media. Through photography, moving images, and installations—including a teenager’s bedroom and an algorithm room—the exhibition brings the series’ themes into physical space, examining the relationship between private experience and life online.
